The 5 love languages... for children

Last night I attended a workshop on the 5 love languages for children.

Remember I read the original love languages book a few weeks ago, just making it my 5th book for Feb?

Anyway, I thought it was fabulous.

I'd come across the love languages before and while I had a general idea of why it was a good idea to know yours and your partner's language, the book just added SO MUCH more to my understanding.
  • how, within your love language, like with any language, there are dialects
  • even if you have an idea of which your main two languages are, how to tell for sure which one is number 1 and which is number 2
  • why it's so important that you speak to your partner's love language and more importantly, how you can get along better as a result
Anyway, I'd been trying to go to this workshop for about 6 months (I'm on her newsletter) and in a fit of desperation, I booked (just) me on it and asked D to babysit.

I was the only single person there, aside from 8 other couples, 7 of them husband and wife teams and one set of friends (one of them a very loud woman).

Aside from seriously feeling out (I don't normally) and jealous (because they had babysitters!), I loved it.

I got my money's worth in the first 15 minutes.

This lady charged R160 per person - I would have charged R400 - R500. The information was that valuable.

Interestingly, this lady read the book, was passionate about it, started sharing with fellow mothers at her kids' school. They asked her to do a workshop here and there for friends and friends of friends, and so her business was born.

She now does a number of parenting courses.

I was thinking, "hey, that could be me with Motherstyles" :)

Back to the love languages...

They do say that you'll be able to tell your child's love language for sure by age 5 but that if you watch carefully, you can figure it out before then.

I've mentioned on this blog before that Connor's is quality time and Kendra's is words of affirmation. I now think Kendra's is 1) physical touch and 2) words of affirmation.

There is honestly too much too share so I'll write one more post but for now, do you know what your love language is?

Here you go - take the assessment.

Can you guess what my two love languages are?

Share yours in the comments.

P.S. My very favourite maker of posters,Aimee Dolich, is having a spring sale. I can thoroughly recommend her work and her fantastic service as I own two of her things. BTW, everyone in my team is jealous of my "courage" print and every single time I glance over at it, I smile. The words just speak directly to my soul. Go check out her blog and her etsy site. I've spent MANY happy hours being inspired over there.

  1. I LOVED The 5 LL. I still want to get the one for Childrens one. I think that you are Words of Affirmation and Acts of Service.

For my Primary LL I scored a tie (got a 9) between Physical Touch and Words of Affirmation.

My Secondary LL (got an 8)is Quality Time.

My DH has Acts of Service (can you imagine how I battle with this)? and Physical Touch.

And I would absolutely consider doing that Motherstyles thing. You love it and are passionate about it so why not give it a go? You can totally do it.

  2. I don't know anything about this book but I had a quick look and I would say I'm probably Words of Affirmation and Physical Touch (edited to add: I just did the questionnaire online and I was half right - 9 on physical touch, 7's on Quality Time and Acts of Service). I can't wait to find out what my daughter's will be.

I think you are Acts of Service and Quality Time :)

  3. P.S. I responded to your comment on my blog here -

Sorry for the essay! I clearly feel v strongly about it!

  4. My primary is Quality Time which I totally agree with(9) but my secondary was split between receiving gifts and acts of service (6). I strongly disagree with this. I am not big on receiving gifts nor is DH a particularly good gift giver. As for acts of service, I would love to receive them but as evident from my other blog that is a bit of an issue here!

I really dislike surveys like this because often I can't decided on a proper choice. I feel like I am being dishonest and not getting the true answer because I had to choose the best false answer.

For you I would pick words and I think service. You value your alone time so quality time would be a third I believe followed in order by gifts and touch. Although I'm totally unsure of where to place touch having never met you in person!

  5. You're probably affirmation.

    Here's what I got:

    3 Words of Affirmation
    10 Quality Time
    undefined Receiving Gifts
    7 Acts of Service
    10 Physical Touch

    Quality Time was highlighted.

  6. How funny, just last night I did the 5 love languages test after a small argument with a friend who accused me of being thoughtless & I'm bilingual... 10 & 10 on quality time & acts of service!

  7. Very interesting...I was a Words of Affirmation (I suspect this was one of yours too). I wonder if I feel this way just b/c this is how he is...if I was with someone else, I wonder if I'd be different.

  8. I took the test and I was "Acts of service" with physical touch coming in second.

Since we tend to be similar (ESTJ) I'll guess that you also have acts of service and maybe words of affirmation as well.

  9. I just made Aaron take it. He got 10 for Quality Time like me, and 8 for Physical Touch.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment and filling my love tank. I appreciate it!
