I'm mortified, frustrated and blue

So please, for the love, go read half of the post that disappeared when I pressed publish last week.

And then tell me those tips are good, ok?

I realised something. I'm frustrated with blogging, not because I necessarily want comments (I do!), but because I want feedback and to chat, and to engage and connect.

It's the strangest thing - I keep thinking "I need to talk to the blog about X" and then I have this weird feeling of almost deja vu. So I go check my blog and sure enough I have talked to the blog about X, but it doesn't feel like it because no-one's talking back.

*sigh*

That's what I miss about old-school blogging.

When everyone was just having a fat (online) chat with friends in the computer via the blogs.

I had some emails from concerned parties because it's no secret that I've stopped the post-a-day for a few weeks and the thing is this - I enjoy it but it's a 30-minute (or longer) exercise and I could be getting my kicks from other things in the evening (reading, clearing emails, working on my business or tidying my house - I get satisfaction from my sorted spaces).

I'm not really blue but I am super busy at work. So on the one hand I feel slightly out of my depth and on the other hand, I'm totally earning my salary (!) but I'm also getting to that cool stage of anticipating client needs and doing really good work. It always happens at a point in time, and I love it because it feels like I'm on my game.

How are you doing...really?

  1. I think people have gotten out of the habit of leaving comments, especially because a lot of folks are on twitter so the comments and conversation happens there. I'm making a point of leaving comments this week, it may or may not continue.

    1. Cassey, thanks for your comment! That may be it and I'm not on Twitter (nor do I want to be).

    2. I love twitter, it's great for popping in and out of conversations. But, I can see how it's not for all.

  2. I'm sorry, if we haven't been having our blogging chats. Again, we must be at the same place, as I missed it and wanted to let everyone know how crazy things have been. And I don't want to be melodramatic about it, but it's been tough, like mercury-in-retrograde tough. I put up a post about our crazy happenings. I'm ready for spring, as you ease into autumn. I love both seasons. They are welcome transitions! Let's hope this transition of seasons gives us good health and the ability to have more blogging conversations!

  3. Blogging has definitely changed! I totally don't have the time.. Or rather I don't make time.

But I do try to comment occasionally. Rarely. But I really appreciate you allowing us to see the full post!

  4. I noticed that you did not post over the weekend but it has happened before? Honestly I also miss it - a lot! In the same breath I also has less time than ever before so I guess it boils down to me also not commenting as much as I used to. I hate twitter so I really do not converse there at all.

I am fine - it's ballet rehearsal week so a tough and busy one.But its downhill to the hoiday

  5. I am doing great...really...at home. Hahaha, work sucks to the nth degree, and I'm either going to get myself fired one of these days or find something else. I'm done taking it quietly and hoping it will get better.

Home though could not be better. I am "blogging" it, but mostly privately. Only the very general things get published now. Oh well, it is what it is. *shrug*

  6. I also have a lot less time to write a blog post... and I do miss it.
I do also forget what I was so excited about posting about, by the time I get to my laptop :)

  7. I post a comment when i feel i have something to say....but sometimes, I don't post because I don't feel like having my opinion out there...does that makes sense? The whole blogging world has changed....when I started blogging years ago..(my first post 25 Nov 2009)...people used to tell stories, talk about their days and interest. I enjoyed that . Then people started marketing their blogs like crazy. I HATE THAT. If you have a give away on your blog, I stop reading it. Now blogging seems to be more about how many views, how many comments...and who can get free stuff. The naturalism of blogging has been replaced with oversized egos and a constant need to be "popular."...From a few years ago, I used to follow about 50 blogs, now I can count of one hand

  8. I have been bad with commenting and reading. I am so busy and something has to give and generally blog reading goes first :( And then I end up with 100 unread items and that overwhelms me.

  9. I still blog the way I blogged when I started back in 2004. Which is probably why I still only have about 3 on-off readers. And that's okay with me.
I do comment a lot more than I did back then, though, because I've learned over the years that few of those "popular" bloggers are actually as together as their popular blogs make them seem, which means I can give the chip on my shoulder a rest for a bit... :-P
I remember the first time a South African blogger commented on my blog. It was Angel and it was such a huge compliment to me that someone from my own part of the world thought I was worth reading...
And now that I'm no longer on social media, I'm rediscovering the love of blogging, although I haven't blogged for about 2 weeks now... Guess I'd better get to it!

  10. Really? I don't think you have the time to counsel me if I say how I am "really" so i will just leave it at "life is very full, I am frustrated by much and just treading water right now"

  11. I also miss blogging and the chats.... Now that I work from home I feel that I have some much less time. I love reading blogs and commenting but now just don't get to it that much.

This week I am also feeling blue - in fact it is pretty much this whole month. I can not wait for the 2nd April, when at least some of my stress will be over. Tenants will have moved out and the property will hopefully be registered in the new owners name by then.

  12. It feels like Dec yr end with all the busyness ... That said I did notice you weren't posting as often and I think I even made a comment about it.

I comment here and there but not consistently and with me removing most things from cellular data. I only get a few minutes to comment when I get home in the evenings.

  13. I think that is the reason why I don't blog anymore. There just isn't any interaction anymore. On the other hand though, I don't have the time anymore to read blogs that often or write them.
I am glad that everything at work is going so well and that you sound so happy. Very happy for you.
